Couples therapy differs from individual therapy in that the focus of the work is on the relationship between the couple.  A couple may comprise 2 adults of any sexual orientation or parent and child.

Our aim in this type of work is to increase awareness of the dynamics within the relationship and increase support for the relationship. One of the primary focuses for this is to improve communication between the individuals and increase the level of awareness of how each impacts the other. Where appropriate additional relationship skills are taught.

As with individual therapy, we provide a neutral environment in which the relationship difficulties can be explored. This is without judgment or blame, or favouring one side of the relationship ie we are there to support both parties. If it is not possible to resolve the relationship difficulties then we may assist the couple to end the relationship in as effective a way as is possible.

We can also offer co-joint couple therapy, where we both meet with the couple and do individual work with each person in the relationship.
